Mental Health and the College application Process

The college application process is rapidly approaching, and can seem overwhelming for some. Challenges such as cost, competition, lack of resources, and fear of the unknown can easily cause anxiety and spiraling.


31% of highschoolers struggle with some sort of anxiety disorder


SAT prep, college essays and applications can easily lead to troubling thoughts of “What if I’m not smart enough?”, "What if I don't get in?", and worrying over getting into “best” schools.


It’s important to be able to recognize when you or someone you know could be struggling with school-related anxiety.


Here are some symptoms to look out for:

  • sudden drop in grades

  • emotional changes

  • trouble sleeping

  • social difficulty

Those are just a few signs that someone could be struggling with burnout and school related anxiety.


Here are some steps that you can take if you feel your anxiety has heightened during the college process:

Identify the mental health resources your school provides. One of the first steps to asking for help is knowing where you can receive support. Take care of yourself, and try to set limits for yourself when it comes to schoolwork and college applications.


No grade or college is worth sacrificing your mental well-being for!
